Small-business coalition forms to fight Association Health Plan legislation WASHINGTON, D.C. – State, regional and national small-business organizations are joining together as the Small Business Coalition for Equitable Health Insurance to oppose federal Association Health Plan legislation (H.R. 660 and S. 545).
This broad voice of small business organizations at all levels demonstrates the opposition to this harmful legislation, and the desire of small-business to have a real and lasting solution to rising health insurance costs.
“The idea that small-business is seeking this legislation is no longer valid,” said Scott Lyon, Vice-president of Insurance Services for the Small Business Association of Michigan. “This coalition stands ready to defend small businesses from risk-selection and market segmentation.”
The organizations currently participating in the coalition include the Arizona Small Business Association, the Council of Smaller Enterprises / Greater Cleveland Growth Association, the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce, the Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Akron Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce, the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Metro Jackson (Miss.) Chamber of Commerce, National Small Business United, the Northern Ohio Area Chambers of Commerce, the Small Business Association of Michigan and SMC Business Councils (Penn.).
The Small Business Coalition for Equitable Health Insurance is a coalition of concerned small business organizations seeking a fair and equitable solution to rising health insurance costs for small businesses. For more information, visit sbhealthequity.org.
